Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri Dixit is an acclaimed Indian actress, best known for her performances in the films Beta Saajan and Hum Hain Koun..! In the 1980s the actress began her acting career and became famous for her role as Tezaab which she played alongside the veteran actor Anil Kapooor. Her next role was in Dil in which she was on screen with Aamir. In the beginning, as a girl growing up in Mumbai's middle class she began to learn how to dance. At the age of 15 when she began to act, she was not successful as a lot of her movies were unsuccessful. The actress gained fame and was one of India's top film actors. After her wedding, she took a career break before reentering the business. More recently she played in a crucial character in the film Gulaab Gang which was about the struggles of women in India. Dixit was nominated 15 times to win Filmfare Awards. She won 8 of these. Padma Shri - the fourth highest civilian honor in India - was given to Dixit. She is known for her social works as well.
